André Bélisle’s Word of Welcome

André Belisle Do you own an old vehicle of model year 1999 or earlier? Are you hoping to have it recycled in an eco-friendly fashion in exchange for 12 months’ worth of free public transit tickets or passes, or other interesting rewards? Well, you have come to the right place. Welcome to the Clear The Air! Web site!

Clear The Air! is the program funded by the Quebec government, initiated and administered by the Association québécoise de lutte contre la pollution atmosphérique (AQLPA) for recycling older, highly-polluting vehicles. Its purpose is to reduce pollution produced by older vehicles and promote the use of more sustainable means of transportation.

True, it is sometimes hard to offload an old jalopy that we have trusted for many years. However, here is some food for thought: you may not be aware of it, but your old vehicle spews out up to 39 times more pollution, according to some estimates, than a 2004 or later model. Mighty serious stuff!

According to the Direction de la Santé publique de Montréal (Montreal department of community health), around 1,500 people die prematurely every year because of the Greater Montreal region’s unhealthy air. Mechanically speaking, inadequately maintained old vehicles are also dangerous for drivers’ and passengers’ safety. All of this makes it necessary to retire the largest possible number of old vehicles from Quebec roads while offering their owners tangible benefits.

If you believe your old crate will end up in an open-air cemetery and just lay there forever, look again! Under Clear the Air!, your venerable buggy will get recycled according to best practice, and parts containing toxic substances will be safely and securely eliminated.

When the time comes to make THE decision concerning your aging heap, take simple action and avail yourself of the Clear the Air! program’s benefits: contribute to reducing air pollution, and receive up to 12 months’ worth of public transit tickets or passes free of charge and/or other enticing rewards!
